In future, I would completely avoid any kind of automatic driver installation / catch-all "fixer" tools (I.e. Or a local PC repair technician, if there are any that are trustworthy in your area. If the instructions on the above help sites seem daunting, or you don't feel confident performing the reinstall yourself, I'd recommend phoning Microsoft to see what your options are, or if they could walk you through over the phone step by step. It's important to note that you will likely lose any files that are not backed up on the Surface performing these resets. If that doesn't work, you may need to reinstall Windows - try following the options listed on this page - you'll need access to a working computer and a usb flash drive or for Microsoft to mail you one. If you can, try restarting into safe mode and then use the built-in factory reset from the settings menu. There’s no reason I should still have to factory reset, right? I’m SO GLAD I didn’t have to factory reset. OH THANK GOD! System restore, turns out I had automatic save states, restoring to 5 days ago, this should restore the drivers too. This is what happens when you jump at what promises to be the SIMPLEST AND AUTOMATIC solution. I should have went straight to Windows, not a third party. I just made my PC COMPLETELY UNUSABLE, I’m not a tech genius so I don’t understand all of the tech talk like messing with all of the deep system sertings, which is why this “automatic” Driver Booster was so appealing to me. I’ve had this for two years, and had the original error when detaching and reattaching the screen, but barely used it for awhile so just got to trying to fix it. I’m thinking either I just fell for malware (spyware?) or Driver Booster is legitimate, but my PC is not designed to have all of the most updated drivers. Windows is also unable to automatically repair itself.ĭriver Booster showed a couple of outdated drivers as 1968, which just SCREAMS illegitimate. Now I can’t use my PC AT ALL, it’s just stuck in an endless rebooting cycle with this error screen, and BitLocked keeps asking me for my recovery key, just to crash again. NOW, I get Stop code SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED What failed: ov7251.sys I found Driver Booster 9, which is supposedly a solution to detect and automatically update all outdated drivers at once. I kept getting ** Stop code DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL** and What failed nvlddmkm.sys, and this ONLY HAPPENED when I detached, and then reattached, my screen.
